Personal Manifesto

“Don’t Fake the Funk.”

This document proposes attributes for both creative and ethical alignment. It is meant to function as a public doctrine of personal integrity.

“Listening Closely”

The art of active listening is both selfless and observant. It is a process that allows me to gain alternative perspective and grow as a designer.

“Minding the Mind”

In becoming analytically absorbed, I’ve discovered great value in stepping outside of myself and taking the time to observe the way that my mind functions.

“Keeping a Journal”

Allowing myself the chance to write about my experiences provides a space for realistic reflection. Problems have stronger potential for improvement once reevaluated.

“Embracing Sensitivity”

As a designer, I feel it’s important to utilize all forms of sensitivity from emotional to aesthetic.

“Visualizing the Details”

Embracing imagination becomes crucial to the aspiring creative. This process leaves the designer in lesser limitation to the tools at hand.

“Iteration & Intent”

Receptivity for growth is inspired by examining all options and aligning to greater goals. Possibilities become limitless and fruitful if many ideas are pursued.

“Theory & Action”

Though a combination of action and theory is difficult to obtain, it provides results that are both process oriented and evident of definition.

“Digging Deeper”

Demanding experience and detail in research delivers an informed perspective. Good ideas require research.

“Faking the Funk”

The responsibility to stay true to myself defines my goals and inspires my life.

    Matt,
I want you to know that I love you and everything about you, that I wholeheartedly look up to you (and no one else,) and that I believe in you. Don’t forget.
